Fred Alan Wolf

Fred Alan Wolf, AKA Dr. Quantum, is an American theoretical physicist featured in The Secret and What the BLEEP Do We Know? thanks to his interest in quantum physics and the relationship between physics and consciousness.

Life

Fred Alan Wolf was born on born December 3, 1934. His interest in physics began in childhood:

“Dr. Wolf’s fascination with the world of physics began one afternoon as a child at a local matinee, when the newsreel revealed the awesome power and might of the world’s first atomic explosion. This fascination continued, leading Wolf to study mathematics and physics.”

Wolf received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from UCLA in 1963, and, following his childhood fascination, began researching the field of high atmospheric particle behavior following a nuclear explosion.

Over time he got interested in the relationship between human consciousness, psychology, physiology, the mystical, and the spiritual; he is well known for his simplification of the new physics. He has lectured on subjects related to quantum physics and consciousness since the 1960s, often under the name Dr. Quantum or Captain Quantum (he even created comic characters with these names).

In 1982 his book Taking the Quantum Leap was the recipient of the prestigious National Book Award for Science.

He has taught at San Diego State University (12 years), the University of Paris, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the University of London, and Birkbeck College, London.

Dr. Wolf is best known for his contributions through technical papers and popular books, but he is frequently in demand as a lecturer, keynote speaker, and consultant to industry and the media.

Teachings and Philosophy

Dr. Wolf openly admitted that he doesn’t agree with everything presented in What the BLEEP and The Secret:

(…) I try to explain to people that the basic of understanding that we physicists have of how the universe works is not based upon the Law of Attraction. What it is based upon is that there seems to be the presence of something called Mind, or something outside of the physical world, which seems to be needed or present in order to explain, completely, the observations of reality that we have been able to carry out up to now. (source)

He further explains that there has to be something called either “Universal Mind”, “a quantum field of action,” or anything else that describes a presence which is not material, but which is capable of shaping matter, or even giving birth to matter, in terms of the way fundamental physics works.

On his website he explains how he thinks our thoughts can shape our life: there is a big difference between just thinking: “I want a big car”, “I am not good enough” or “I am good”, and taking an appropriate action to do something about these thoughts:

When you think those thoughts you tend to act according to them and those actions will attract you to those objects and modify your behavior accordingly. There is no magic field “out there” or magic genii “out there” that will answer those thoughts by granting your wishes as the film seems to imply. That magic field or genii is yourself.

He believes the really big secret is not the LOA in the sense of “your thoughts attract things to you”, but in the sense of taking action – the secret is the action that people who realize their purpose take in their lives.

Quotes

Asking yourself these deeper questions opens up new ways of being in the world.
It brings in a breath of fresh air.
It makes life more joyful.
The real trick of life is not to be in the know, but to be in the mystery.

Some of you may be thinking, ‘Well, that’s very nice but I can’t do that.’ Or, ‘She wont let me do that!’ Or, ‘He’ll never let me do that.’ Or, ‘I haven’t got enough money to do that!’ Or, ‘I’m not strong enough to do that.’ Or, ‘I’m not rich enough to do that.’ ‘I’m not, I’m not, I’m not, I’m not, I’m not, I’m not!’. Every single ‘I’m not’ is a creation.

The self is fundamentally an illusion arising as a reflection of the soul in matter, much as a clear lake at midnight reflects the moon.

In the video below Dr. Wolf is talking about conscious reflection:
