Lucid dreaming is a wondrous experience and can expand your consciousness beyond your wildest expectations. While it is not a new subject by any means, it is still unfamiliar ground for most people.

For beginners of intentional lucid dreaming, this will be your crash course on 3 of the more common methods of inducing a lucid dream.

Dream Recall:

This is basically the ability to remember dreams. It’s usually linked to being the first step towards lucid dreaming. You may have been told to keep a dream journal or use an audio recorder to remember all of your dreams before. This is because dreams are usually forgotten quite quickly. Therefore you must write down or record your dreams immediately.

A suggested method is to keep your eyes closed and try to remember the dream and record that dream in the present tense. While this approach may not necessarily induce a lucid dream it is the first step to becoming aware of your dream state. All other following methods require the dreamer to be aware and conscious of their dreams and be able to remember them.

Mnemonic Induction Of Lucid Dreams (MILD)

This common technique was developed by Stephen LaBerge and is used to induce a lucid dream on command by declaring the intention, while falling asleep, to recognize that you are dreaming.

One use of MILD is known as the finger-counting method. All this simply requires is for you to continuously count people’s fingers during the day. If done consistently while awake, this pattern of behavior will continue into the dream. Eventually a discrepency from reality will occur and this will cause the dreamer to realize that he is dreaming and thus the dream will become lucid.

Wake-Back-To-Bed

This is the easiest method of lucid dreaming available.  Chances are you’ve done it once or twice before and did not notice it. This technique involves going to bed tired and waking up approximately 5 to 6 hours later. At this time, you will focus all thoughts on lucid dreaming for one hour and then go back to sleep while practicing the MILD method mentioned above.

There has been a high rate of success using this technique.

While this is by no means an exhaustive list of lucid dreaming approaches, it is a starter. As you advance you may research more difficult methods and attain a higher quality and longer lasting lucid dream.

Try these lucid dreaming techniques out and sweet dreams!
